Peach Carr, Mila Hermanovski, Korto Momolu, Daniel Esquivel and Bert Keeter are among the Project Runway designers showing their latest collections at Tucson Fashion Week.
Film Tucson Presents: Project Runway Showcase & Project Arizona on Saturday October 18th. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets.
Project Runway All-Star, Korto Momolu presented her Spring 2015 collection, "Rebirth" at New York Fashion Week on Monday Sept. 8th. She is also preparing for the "Project Runway Showcase" at Tucson Fashion Week on October 18th. Korto sends her love to everyone at BPR and gave us an interview this morning. A highlight: BPR: Please tell us about your Spring 2015 collection.
KM: The collection is called "Rebirth." As you know, I just had a baby, and I wanted to sort of start fresh. I was thinking about "my girl" and her journey. She not in college any more - she is growing up! So I thought about what she wanted to say and how she wanted to be perceived.
I kept my silhouette, but amped it up a little bit. The color palette is calm, smooth and soft. The baby blue of course represented my baby boy. There were a few shockers with the bright orange, but for the most part it was like a breeze - a calm summer breeze.
BPR: How many looks did you present at NYFW?
KM: I did twenty-three.
BPR: Will you be showing these looks at TFW, or will we see new looks?
KM: I will show this collection - hopefully all 23 looks. For those who can't get to New York Fashion Week, they will have the opportunity to see the collection in a calmer environment.
Project Runway Season 9 designer, Bert Keeter, talks about Tucson Fashion Week and his newest collection, KORE. A highlight:
BPR: What is new for TFW this year? BK: It is always evolving. This year we are holding the fashion show in a beautiful restored theater in downtown Tucson. Also we are having a Project Runway Showcase featuring five Project Runway designers. BPR: How did you determine the designers that have been chosen for the Project Runway Showcase? BK: We were looking for great designers with strong fan bases. All of these designers have been All-Stars, except for me... BPR: ...A serious oversight.... BK: Peach creates modern separates and she is just a lot of fun to be around. Mila is more edgy. Daniel is very glamorous - he creates very special pieces, and Korto also creates very beautiful day-to-evening looks. Click here for the full interview. Click here for Bert's website.
Project Runway All-Star, Austin Scarlett, presented his Fall 2015 Bridal collection and BPR Field Reporter, Jennifer Mara sends us this report. Thanks Jen! Sunday morning at Grand Central Station I'm excited and about to walk into the Austin Scarlett Bridal Show for Fall 2015. Austin knows elegant while also taking fun and comfort into consideration. An array of rotating models told me so as I watched them easily move with a grace and a personality that was illuminated by each dress.
The dress presentation was in the clear style of a Scarlett show- with a great big nod to Gone With the Wind...his all time favorite. The first time Austin watched Gone With The Wind he was twelve years old and he watched it straight through, "so now that I am somewhat a part of it, -this is a dream come true for me and it's like coming full circle because it (Gone With the Wind) was my ultimate. That first time I watched it, I was like This. Is. It."
Project Runway Season 13 designer, Emily Payne, talks about her experience on the show. A highlight: BPR: Although you were eliminated, you still showed a collection at Fashion Week. Please tell us about your inspiration and process.
EP: I took the look from the makeover challenge as inspiration. I work at Britex so it was easy for me to find some awesome fabric. The judges seemed to really respond to that one. It was really me. I took the look and tried to make more wearable designs.
BPR: Which was your favorite look?
EP: The first one.

BPR ace field reporter Tina G. stayed out past her bedtime last week to catch the new collection from Under The Gunn favorite Sam Donovan at the Liberty Hotel in Boston. Nothing but raves from a pretty discerning eye:
Who is she and where is she going? Tim Gunn might come to mind when you read this phrase, but it’s also a phrase that Sam Donovan, fashion designer and first runner-up on Lifetime’s Project Runway: Under the Gunn, draws from when designing clothing. He stresses the importance of this phrase, especially for young designers.
Those of us who were lucky enough to attend Sam’s latest show also wanted to know How could we be her? Sam’s show, a part of The Liberty Hotel Boston’s Fashionably Late series, included pants, tops, dresses and even a jumpsuit. Sam has a knack for designing fashionable items that women of any age can wear.

You’ve seen the designs on the runway at Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and now it is your turn to be the judges. This week you are Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, Zac Posen, and Emmy Rossum. It's time to tell us:
Project Runway Season 13 Champion, Sean Kelly talks about his experience on the show and about his plans for the future. A highlight:
BPR: Did you watch the previous seasons of Project Runway? SK: Yes, going all the way back to season one actually. I watched in New Zealand it was one of my favorite shows. It's kind of surreal to find myself a contestant and now a winner! BPR: Going in to the finale, did you feel like the favorite? SK: No. I felt that we all presented such different and strong collections that I didn't feel there was any "divide" between the designers. I did not see that there was any clear winner.
